Honeymooners are missing after their vacation house washed away
A honeymoon couple is missing in Greece after severe storms destroyed the home they were living in.
The pair and numerous other missing persons are being sought by emergency authorities, according to the BBC.
People in central Greece were stuck on their roofs when floods submerged entire communities.
Since Storm Daniel slammed Greece, Turkey, and Bulgaria this week, more than a dozen people have perished.
As severe rain poured over central Greece, the Austrian couple allegedly opted to take refuge inside the villa they had leased for their honeymoon.
However, the home in the coastal town of Potistika, near Mount Pelion, was carried away by flash floods late Tuesday, according to sources.
The Greek Fire Department stated it has a team hunting for missing persons in the region, including the Austrian couple.
Some Greek districts have received up to 800mm (31.5 inches) of rain in recent days, which is more than usual for a year.
The Karditsa plain in central Greece was characterised as a “lake,” with settlements near Palamas drowning in water.
Giorgos Sakellariou, the mayor of Palamas, issued a desperate call for aid on Greek television, stating people were trapped in their houses and in imminent danger.
“The situation in Palamas is tragic,” he was quoted as telling Skai TV.
“The water is 1.5m, 2m high. In the house I’m in, we’re trapped. It’s 1.5m (4.9 feet) deep at least. People are trapped in their houses. We will have people drowning.”
Extreme weather also struck Athens and the island of Skiathos, as well as coastal locations around Volos and Pelion.
As the crisis worsened, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis cancelled a major government event scheduled for the weekend.

Hulk Hogan, the WWE icon famed for his characteristic tights and flamboyant demeanour, married for the third time on Friday, swapping his trademark gear for a tuxedo to marry fiancée Sky Daily in Florida.
Close relatives and friends, including Hogan’s son Nick and Daily’s three children, attended the modest wedding at Indian Rocks Baptist Church.
Hogan, 70, wore a typical black tuxedo, while Daily, 45, wore a beautiful white wedding gown and diamond-encrusted 18-karat white gold jewellery. According to TMZ, the pair swapped $500,000 rings.
“My new life starts now!” On Instagram, Hogan posted a video of the day.
Hogan, whose actual name is Terry Bollea, is married for the third time. From 1983 to 2007, he was married to Linda, the mother of his two children, Brooke and Nick.
In 2010, he married Jennifer McDaniel, but the pair split in 2021.
Hogan and Daily, a yoga instructor, revealed their engagement at the wedding of their friends Corin Nemec and Sabrina Nova in July.

However, other analysts suggest that Harry’s relationships with Charles, William, and Kate have altered dramatically since he wrote his caustic biography Spare, which may imply no wishes for Harry this year.
Another reason for Harry’s projected birthday snub might be that the Royal family has changed the criteria for birthday posts, with only senior working members now being publicly acknowledged.
Meanwhile, Harry looked to be in good spirits as he celebrated his pre-birthday with Meghan and the Archewell crew at a typical German restaurant.
